Client: Global Specialty Chemicals Manufacturer
Issue: Unknown, Unwanted Lab and Process Chemicals
Solution: On Site Expertise and Ingenuity Create a Win-Win
A global specialty chemicals manufacturer in Illinois had accumulated an excessive volume of unwanted, unneeded chemicals and raw ingredients from their laboratory, maintenance, and process operations. The chemicals were taking up valuable floor and cabinet space. They were also creating a potential health and safety issue for the plant’s personnel.
As the plant already relies on ERC Midwest for vacuum tanker transportation, wastewater treatment, fuels blending, industrial cleaning, water blasting and confined space entry solutions, ERC Midwest was top of mind with the plant manager when this need arose, and we got the call.
“Can you help us?” was the question. “Of course,” was our answer.
The client provided us with a baseline inventory of the hazardous and non-hazardous waste items they had identified for disposal. But, as with many lab pack inventories, their list proved to be less than 100% reliable.
When our lab pack experts arrived, it was quickly determined that several chemicals were unlabeled or unknown, which can create a dangerous situation. In addition, as the project got under way, the scope grew as plant personnel realized that there were more items that needed to be disposed than initially thought.
Fortunately, our lab pack teams are used to these kinds of situations and realize that our combination of expertise, and flexibility, are required to create a great, safe lab pack experience for every client. In this case, that flexibility included the use of various field screening tools to identify potential pH and reactivity issues.
At the end of the day, the client’s chemicals were safely identified, packaged, manifested and transported off site.
We were proud to be the guide that helped this client achieve its goals.
Another complex waste problem solved. Happy Client!
