Client: Hazardous Materials Managers
Issue: Clients Need to Meet Training Recertification Requirements During a Pandemic
Solution: Making the Required Training Easy and Free
Many ERC Midwest clients manage shipments of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes in the normal course of their company’s business. Engaging in these activities is highly regulated and potentially dangerous. Department of Transportation [DOT] and Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA] regulations mandate that ALL employees whose duties involve the shipment and/or handling of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes, for example employees who:
- Conduct Hazardous Waste Inspections
- Mark & Label HazMat Containers
- Place Hazardous Waste in Containers
- Prepare or Sign Shipping Papers
must be trained annually for OSHA regulations and every 3 years for DOT regulations.
Normally, we charge $350 or more per person for this training.
We knew that our clients were already facing many new challenges in their businesses due to COVID-19. Everything is harder. Money is tight. Priorities have shifted. Time is precious. Things have changed.
We also knew that what hasn’t changed is the need our clients have to keep their people trained. To keep them Safe. To stay compliant. To avoid regulatory headaches. That obligation is still there. It just got harder for them to get it done.
That got us thinking about how else we could help clients in their time of need. They already rely on us to help them solve their most complex waste problems. We help them with hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal and recycling, wastewater treatment, transportation, sludge removal, lab packing and industrial cleaning solutions.
What additional value could we provide them?
Because we are DOT and Hazardous Waste Experts, we knew that we could help clients meet their training obligations by providing them the training they need. Although we normally charge clients $350 or more per person for this training, this time we decided to offer it free. Why? Because they needed it, and because we could.
