Chicagoland COVID-19 Decontamination at Food Production Facility

Chicagoland Food Production Facility Gets Next-Day COVID-19 Decontamination

Client: Global Food Products Manufacturer
Issue: Confirmed Covid-19 Case Threatens Production at Essential Food Production Facility
Solution: Emergency Facility Decontamination and Disinfection Throughout the 200K sf Food Production Facility

A global Food Products Manufacturing Facility experienced a confirmed employee COVID-19 case at one of its Chicagoland facilities. The coronavirus case was reported on a Saturday morning. This presented a huge problem as the plant needed to be professionally decontaminated and disinfected to make it safe for essential 1st shift production on Monday morning. ERC Midwest got the call that Saturday.

“Can you help us?” was the question. “Of course,” was our answer.

One of our expert project managers spoke that morning with the client to confirm the particulars of the facility, and to identify and define the necessary scope of work. Next, our PM reached out to his ERC Midwest team to assemble the crew we’d need to deliver the decontamination and disinfection results we promised.

On Sunday, the team performed the work required to help the client address the problem. After suiting up in the necessary Personal Protective Equipment [PPE], which included a hooded Tyvek coverall, rubber boots and a full-faced respirator, the team performed ERC Midwest’s proprietary 2-step decontamination process, killing the virus on the hard and soft surfaces throughout the facility.

In step 1, they hand-wiped all heavily trafficked and touched areas like doorknobs, desks, tables and computers. In step 2, the team used specially designed electrostatic sprayers to apply a chemical proven to envelop and quickly kill coronavirus.

The sprayers atomize the chemical so that it dries fast and leaves behind no residue. It’s also Food-Grade Safe!

This decontamination & disinfection process made the facility safe once again and provided the Peace of Mind that the client’s employees needed to continue working.

Here’s what our client had to say about working with ERC Midwest on this complex problem:

“ERC Midwest had a crew on site on Sunday, and they used the correct equipment and chemicals to clean our plant in one day. We were able to go back work on Monday without disruption of our operations.”

In less than 8 hours on a Sunday, the ERC Midwest team completed the decontamination process and the facility was safe and ready for the client’s employees to resume their critical and essential work.

We were proud to be the guide that helped this client achieve its goals.

Another complex waste problem solved. Happy Client!
